Vidushi RAJARAJESHWARY BHAT: VOCALIST – TEACHER – MUSICOLOGIST – COMPOSER Born into a family of musicians, Smt. Rajarajeshwary Bhat started learning vocal Carnatic Music from her mother Smt. Krishnaveni at a young age and later from Sri Madhur Balasubramanyam. She then continued under the guidance of her brother and violinist Sri Vittal Ramamurthy. Performing artists Sri Chengelpet Ranganathan, Sri Sethalapathy Balasubramanian, Sri Neyveli Santhanagopalan and Lalgudi Sri G. Jayaraman have guided her. A recipient of the Karnataka State Scholarship for studying music, she stood first in the state and in numerous music competitions at state and regional levels. She has a BA and MA both in Music. Smt. Rajarajeshwary Bhat is a graded All India Radio artiste. She has not only regularly performed on Radio, but also on Doordarshan TV and in various sabhas all over India. Adding a feather to her performers cap, she received the “2003 Best Concert Award” from the prestigious Krishna Gana Sabha of Chennai. Her melodious voice and mastery of Carnatic music can also be found through the numerous CDs and Cassettes that have been released by prestigious music labels. She has been teaching Carnatic Vocal at the Sri Krishna Gana Sudha music school in Ujire, Karnataka and Chennai, Tamilnadu since 1988. She teaches over 150 students at these schools. She has been nominated for the “Best Teacher Award”.
