She has been regularly singing for the past 50 years.  She is also a regular performer in Doordarshan TV in both regional and national programmes.   She has had the privilege of singing in the Sangeet Natak Sammelans and Maharaja Swati Tirunal Festivals as well.  She has given concerts all over India and USA.  She has dozens of recordings to her credit from prestigious labels.

She has numerous prizes in various competitions over the years.  The significant ones among those are the gold medal for the Justice T. L. Venkatarama Iyer’s prize for Dikshitar kritis, D. K. Pattamal award of the Music Academy and the first prize from the Indian Fine Arts Society.  She is a recipient of the title of “Naadakanal” for popularizing Mahakavi Subramania Bharatiar’s songs.

She is a regular contributor of articles pertaining to Carnatic Music in premier magazines.  She also gives lecture-demonstrations on Carnatic music and its impact in films regularly.  She has taught vocal Carnatic music for over 40 years.  Many of her students have gone on to make a mark for themselves.

She has a rich and mellifluous voice supported by an imaginative manodharma, which makes her concerts always noted for their devotional appeal, melodic content and technical excellence.  Her attention to details, her restrained improvisation and refusal to indulge in ornate frill work gives her concert a sense of unity and earnestness.

She has a BA and MA in Tamil language and literature.  She joined Swaralayam Arts Forum as its first faculty in 1996.
